During my stay in Japan I visited Itsukushima shrine, which is located in Hiroshima bay on Miyajima island. However there is a pretty funny story about how I got there. After taking the shinkansen 2 hours north to Tokyo from Kyoto, I spent the night there and checked out the city. The following morning I rode the shinkansen south back the way I came past Kyoto bound for Shin Osaka. But I fell asleep on the train and woke up about 200 miles south of Shin Osaka, in the city of Hiroshima. While taking a local train towards a hostel I had looked up on Google maps, I got off at the wrong stop (which happened to be the miyajima ferry port). Unluckily for me that was the last train bound for it's destination, and I was kicked out of the station since it had closed for the night. leaving me stranded with nowhere to stay. I walked around in the cold until I found an under ground tunnel, that lead from the train station to the ferry port. I then waited outside the waiting room for the ferry until it opened at 6:00 am. I was one of only three people to take the ferry across to miyajima island, compared to the hundreds of people boarding ferry's when I left the island six hours later.
