Book 44 - Pick Me - by Greg Gormley, Roberta Angaramo
One of the earliest books we picked for Yuga and a story that we know by heart word to word. As we're raising both book-readers and book-eaters, the book shows signs of torn pages & bitten corners.
The story is set on a visitor's day at an animal adoption center. Dog is impressed by all the attendees - movie stars, famous musicians, ballet dancers etc. All that he wants is someone special to take him home.He puts up a show for each one of them only to mess up and be rejected. Everybody gives up on him until a little girl comes by to help. This is a story of kindness & friendship and plus, many other morals can be drawn from the story depending on your child's age.
The book has big bright illustrations of every scene with very little text giving us the chance to weave our own words into the story.
Continuing to catalog some of the interesting books we read to our cubs Yuga & Kalki. Checkout #yugareads for the list
Book: Ivy and the Lonely Raincloud by Katie Harnett (@katieharne), published by Flying Eye Books (@flyingeyebooks)
Description: This is the second book by the lovely illustrator Katie Harnett, published only this year. A story of a lonely raincloud and his attempt at befriending a seemingly grumpy girl.
Marks out of ten: 8/10 - A lovely story of a simple friendship between raincloud and girl, who end up realising they are more useful to each other than they realised. This book feels beautifully tactile, a combination of the typical pleasingly matt pages of Flying Eye Books and Katie’s textured illustrations. I really like this book, not only because it’s a story of an unlikely friendship, but because the main character represents the diversity we need to see more of in children’s books…. and she’s also a small business owner ;) Toddler points: 9/10 - This is a lovely book to read to a three year old. The words and storyline are simple enough to understand, and the illustrations are bright and colourful but use paint and ink, something that younger children can relate to and be inspired by to try their own cloud and flower paintings.
Where to buy it: straight from the Flying Eye /Nobrow website
