Being underwater in the ocean can seem almost magical at time from a visible standpoint. I've always felt it's impossible to truly capture that magic in images and video, but occasionally I somehow (usually accidentally) capture a shot that comes closer than most of my other shots.
I took this one while shooting down underneath the boat at the submersible cage. It captured divers, a yellowtail mackerel, and two white sharks in the sunlight that flows over the one side of the dive boat, while a ball of baitfish can be seen on the opposite side of the frame in the water shaded from the sun by the boat.
I was shooting downward out of frustration at the time, due to a lot of particulate near the surface, and I didn't expect to get anything worthwhile from it, but after reviewing my images, this one sort of stuck out to me. It's a good reminder that sometimes life can pleasantly surprise you when you think that things aren't going as well as they could be.
