This day last year was my last day at my full-time job. It was a really good job too, the kind that I thought I should have in my mid-twenties. Which made me feel like I was crazy to be leaving. My coworkers and boss were great, I had awesome benefits, but I felt like a caged animal every day. I was working 9-5 and then 5-midnight on my photography almost every night, and on weekends. I couldn't be there for clients during the day and felt like I was living the Bruce Wayne life (the annoying double-life part, not the cool part). The day I quit I was terrified, and I remember almost passing out from the nerves. My heart felt lighter but my brain kept screaming "what the fuck did you just do man? What about that sweet retirement plan? I hate you mom!" (we've pretty much made up since then). It's been a crazy year and running a business is super hard and sometimes uncertain–any business owner will tell you that. But I've also been happier than ever before.
For anyone thinking that maybe self-employment is for them, I say definitely give it some thought. If you've bounced around to lots of jobs and still can't find anything that feels right...I'm sorry to break the news to you, you might need the freelance life ;). As always, feel free to reach out to me if you ever have questions about this, I'm an open book and am still learning as well. Thank you all for your support this year, especially my hubs who has to put up with A LOT xxx
